Entre os beija-flores mais bizarros e espetaculares, os machos de Ocreatus underwoodii carregam penas externas da cauda alongadas com pontas em forma de raquete alargadas e espátula, que se arrastam atrás em voos de exibição, enquanto suas pernas são adornadas com botas de penas brancas e fofas. Encontrado em florestas úmidas andinas da Colômbia, Equador e Venezuela a elevações de 300–2.100 metros. Os machos realizam voos de exibição em mergulho para as fêmeas, com as raquetes girando e captando a luz. Um dos beija-flores neotropicais mais fotografados.
