About

Among the most bizarre and spectacular hummingbirds, male booted racket-tails carry elongated outer tail feathers with enlarged, spatula-like racket tips that trail behind in display flights, while their legs are adorned with white fluffy feather boots. Found in humid Andean forests of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela at elevations of 300–2,100 meters. Males perform swooping display flights to females, with rackets spinning and catching light. One of the most photographed neotropical hummingbirds.
