고지 안데스 운무림에 서식하는 장엄한 대형 탄가라새로, Sericossypha albocristata 수컷은 굵직한 검은색과 짙은 붉은색 깃털에 눈부시게 새하얀 정수리를 지녀 안데스 조류 중 가장 인상적인 색채 조합 중 하나이다. 에콰도르와 콜롬비아의 해발 1,500~3,000미터 습윤 산악림에 서식한다. 쌍이나 소규모 무리로 삼림 내부에서 생활하며 수관에서 과일과 대형 곤충을 먹는다. 안데스 운무림 서식지의 심각한 삼림 벌채로 인해 취약종으로 등재되어 있다.
