About

A spectacular large tanager of high Andean cloud forests, male white-capped tanagers display bold black and deep red plumage with a brilliant snow-white crown — one of the most striking color combinations of any Andean bird. Found in humid montane forest at elevations of 1,500–3,000 meters in Ecuador and Colombia. They inhabit forest interior in pairs or small groups, foraging on fruit and large insects in the canopy. Listed as Vulnerable due to significant deforestation of Andean cloud forest habitat.
