高地アンデス雲霧林に生息する壮大な大型フウキンチョウで、Sericossypha albocristata の雄は大胆な黒と濃赤色の羽毛に純白の頭頂部を持ち、アンデスの鳥の中で最も印象的な色彩の組み合わせの一つである。エクアドルとコロンビアの標高1,500〜3,000メートルの湿潤山岳林に生息する。つがいや小群で森林内部に生活し、樹冠で果実と大型昆虫を採餌する。アンデス雲霧林の大規模な森林破壊により絶滅危惧種に指定されている。
