About

3억 6천만 년 동안 거의 변하지 않은 고대 기생성 무악류 어류인 칠성장어(Petromyzon marinus)는 최대 90cm에 이르는 가늘고 긴 뱀장어 같은 몸과 숙주 물고기의 살을 긁어내는 날카로운 이빨이 줄지어 있는 독특한 흡반 같은 입을 가집니다. 북대서양과 발트해가 원산지이며, 소하성 개체 수는 산란을 위해 바다에서 민물 하천으로 이동합니다. 1830년대부터 오대호에 침입하여 칠성장어 방제 프로그램이 실시되기 전까지 상업 어업을 황폐화시켰습니다.
