About

La lamprea marina (Petromyzon marinus) es un antiquo pez parasito sin mandibula que ha permanecido practicamente sin cambios durante 360 millones de anos. Tiene un cuerpo alargado similar al de una anguila que alcanza los 90 cm y una caracteristica boca en forma de ventosa bordeada de afilados dientes usados para raspar la carne de peces hospedadores. Nativa del Atlantico Norte y del mar Baltico, las poblaciones anadromicas migran del oceano a rios de agua dulce para desovar. Es invasora en los Grandes Lagos desde la decada de 1830, donde diezmo las pesquerias comerciales hasta que se implementaron programas de control.

Found across multiple habitat types including tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, and tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas, among 4 distinct biome types spanning the Australasia and Indomalayan realms. Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.
