About

Entre los loros con mayor dimorfismo sexual del mundo, los loros eclécticos macho son de un verde esmeralda brillante mientras que las hembras son de un rojo y azul vívidos; tan diferentes que durante mucho tiempo se clasificaron como especies distintas. Nativos de las Islas Salomón, Nueva Guinea, el noreste de Australia y las Islas Molucas, habitan el dosel de la selva tropical. Muy valorados como aves de aviario, los loros eclécticos tienen requisitos dietéticos excepcionales y son de las pocas aves que utilizan oquedades en vez de nidos para criar a sus polluelos.

Habitat & Distribution

Inhabits tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests and tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests spanning the Australasia and Indomalayan realms. Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.
