Among the most strikingly sexually dimorphic parrots on Earth, male eclectus parrots are brilliant emerald green while females are vivid red and blue — so different that they were long classified as separate species. Native to the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, northeastern Australia, and the Maluku Islands, they inhabit rainforest canopy. Highly valued aviary birds, eclectus parrots have exceptional diet requirements and are among the few birds that use dens rather than nest holes to raise young.
