Sphingobacterium spiritivorum is a Gram-negative bacterium in the family Sphingobacteriaceae, originally isolated from human clinical specimens. It is aerobic, non-motile, and characterized by its production of sphingolipids in the outer membrane—an unusual feature for bacteria that gives the family its name. It has been associated with opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients.
