<em>Blatta orientalis</em>, commonly known as the oriental cockroach or common cockroach, is an insect in the family Blattidae widely distributed across Asia, Europe, and North America. This species typically inhabits damp, dark environments including sewers, basements, crawl spaces, and leaf litter outdoors. Oriental cockroaches are primarily nocturnal scavengers that feed on decaying organic matter, garbage, and a wide variety of human food products. Adults are dark brown to black in color, with males having shortened wings that cover approximately three-quarters of the abdomen, while females are nearly wingless. Unlike many cockroach species, <em>Blatta orientalis</em> prefers cooler temperatures and is often found in cooler climates or the lower levels of buildings.
