Colombian Plump Frog

<em>Elachistocleis pearsei</em>, commonly known as the Colombian Plump Frog, is an amphibian species belonging to the genus <em>Elachistocleis</em> within the family Microhylidae, a globally distributed group of small to medium-sized frogs. This species is assessed as Least Concern by major conservation bodies, indicating that its populations are currently stable and not at elevated extinction risk. It has been documented in Colombia and Venezuela, where it inhabits freshwater-associated environments, moist forests, and wetland habitats. Microhylid frogs of this genus are typically burrowing or semi-fossorial, often emerging to breed in temporary pools following heavy rainfall. They are characterized by their rounded, inflated body form, which provides the basis for the common name.
