About

O nenúfar-gigante-da-amazónia, o lírio aquático maior do mundo, produz folhas flutuantes circulares com até 3 metros de diâmetro capazes de suportar o peso de uma criança, com bordos recurvados de até 20 cm que impedem o afundamento. Nativo das águas quentes e pouco profundas da bacia amazónica, as suas flores brancas abrem-se à noite, aprisionando besouros polinizadores, e fecham-se e tornam-se rosas no dia seguinte quando os besouros escapam cobertos de pólen. Um ícone da biodiversidade amazónica.
