ハイアゴヤドリハチドリは、コロンビアからボリビアにかけてのアンデスの乾燥・湿潤林に生息する小型のヤドリハチドリで、褐色の背、灰色の顎、白い先端を持つ中央尾を持つ淡いバフ色の下面を持ち、多くのハチドリに比べて地味な色調である。標高300〜1,600mの森林内部と低木林縁に生息し、花を訪れる系統的なトラップライン経路に沿って移動する。雄は永続的な発声を通じて雌を引きつけるために集団求愛場に集まる。
