About

アフリカで最も危険な大型哺乳類であるカバ（Hippopotamus amphibius）は最大3,200kgに達し、サハラ以南アフリカの河川、湖、湿地に生息する。半水生で、体温を保つために1日最大16時間水中に沈んでいることがあり、夜間に陸上で草を食む。穏やかに見えるが非常に攻撃的で縄張り意識が強く、毎年数百人の死亡原因となっている。象牙の密猟と生息地の消失により個体数が脅かされており、危急種に指定されている。
