African elephant

Bornean orangutan

世界最大の樹上性哺乳類であるボルネオオランウータン(Pongo pygmaeus)は最大90kgの体重でボルネオ島の熱帯雨林の林冠で生涯のほとんどを過ごします。単独生活をする半遊牧的な動物で、木に夜間の睡眠巣を作り、果実、葉、無脊椎動物を採食します。パーム油拡大による森林伐採と密猟により、過去60年で個体数が50%以上減少した深刻な絶滅危惧(CR)種です。
