世界最大の樹上性哺乳類であるボルネオオランウータン(Pongo pygmaeus)は最大90kgの体重でボルネオ島の熱帯雨林の林冠で生涯のほとんどを過ごします。単独生活をする半遊牧的な動物で、木に夜間の睡眠巣を作り、果実、葉、無脊椎動物を採食します。パーム油拡大による森林伐採と密猟により、過去60年で個体数が50%以上減少した深刻な絶滅危惧(CR)種です。

大型クジラの中で最も曲芸的なクジラのひとつであるザトウクジラは、繁殖期にオスが歌う複雑で神秘的な歌で知られており、数時間にわたって続き時間をかけて変化していきます。体長16m、体重30トンに達し、哺乳類の中で最長の回遊を行います。全海洋に分布し、協調的なバブルネット採餌でオキアミや小魚を捕食します。歴史的な捕鯨後の個体数はおおむね回復しています。
