About

One of the most endangered parrots in the world, yellow-eared parrots inhabit the high Andean forests of Colombia and Ecuador, where they are critically dependent on the wax palm — the world's tallest palm — for nesting cavities and food. Their population plummeted to approximately 81 birds by 1999 before one of Latin America's most successful parrot recovery programs, led by Fundación ProAves, helped the population recover to over 3,000 individuals. Endangered.
