Monk Parakeet

Unique among parrots as the only species that builds large, communal stick nests rather than nesting in cavities, monk parakeets are native to temperate South America but have established large feral populations in North America, Europe, and Israel. Colonial nesters, multiple pairs build and maintain elaborate apartment-like stick structures in trees and on human-made structures. Considered agricultural pests in some regions, they are simultaneously celebrated for their intelligence and social complexity.
