O maior peixe do mundo, o tubarão-baleia (Rhincodon typus) pode ultrapassar 12 metros e 20 toneladas, habitando oceanos tropicais e temperados quentes em todo o mundo. Apesar do tamanho colossal, é inofensivo e filtra alimentos, consumindo plâncton, ovos de peixe e pequenos peixes ao nadar de boca aberta por águas ricas em presas. Realizam vastas migrações sazonais seguindo florescimentos de plâncton. Em perigo devido à pesca, colisões com embarcações e ao comércio de barbatanas vivas, com populações em declínio de aproximadamente 50% nos últimos 75 anos.
