Nemania serpens e um fungo ascomiceto saprotrofico que produz estromata negros, planos e em forma de crosta que serpenteiam pela superficie da madeira morta, particularmente galhos e troncos de folhosas. E encontrado em florestas temperadas da Europa e America do Norte, onde desempenha um papel na decomposicao da madeira. Esta especie e um dos ascomicetos xilofiticos mais comumente encontrados em florestas deciduas.
