Nemania serpens es un hongo ascomiceto saprotrofico que produce estromata negros, planos y con forma de costra que serpentean por la superficie de la madera muerta, particularmente ramas y troncos de frondosas. Se encuentra en bosques templados de Europa y America del Norte, donde desempena un papel en la descomposicion de la madera. Esta especie es uno de los ascomicetos xilofagos mas comunmente encontrados en bosques caducifolios.
