Pycnora sorophora e um pequeno liquen crustoso com talo de cor cinza-esverdeado palido a amarelado, que produz soredios granulares como estrutura reprodutiva principal. Habita a casca de coniferas antigas e arvores de folha caduca de casca lisa em florestas temperadas e boreais umidas da Europa. Este liquen esta associado a micro-habitats estaveis de florestas antigas.
