비늘가슴문조(Lonchura punctulata)는 아시아에서 가장 널리 분포하는 에스트릴디드핀치 중 하나로, 가슴의 갈색과 흰색 물고기 비늘 모양 패턴에서 이름이 유래했다. 인도에서 동남아시아, 필리핀, 인도네시아에 이르는 초원, 논, 관목지에 서식하며, 하와이, 플로리다, 호주 등 세계 각지에 야생화된 개체군이 있다. 매우 군집성이 강해 풀씨와 쌀알을 먹는 수백 마리 규모의 무리를 형성한다.
