About

광택꽃뚫기새는 빛에 따라 깊고 금속성 광택을 내는 광택 있는 남청색 깃털을 지닌 중형 꽃뚫기새로, 특수화된 갈고리 모양의 부리로 꽃 밑부분을 뚫어 수분을 돕지 않고 꿀을 약탈한다. 이는 조류에서 독립적으로 여러 차례 진화한 꿀 도둑 행동의 한 형태이다. 콜롬비아에서 볼리비아에 이르는 안데스 산지의 해발 1,500~3,500m 습한 운무림과 삼림 가장자리에 서식하며, 풍부한 통상 꽃 식물이 있는 삼림 가장자리와 정원에서 흔히 볼 수 있다.
