シロハラプルメレティアは白い下尾筒にちなんで命名された中大型のハチドリで、輝くような緑色の羽毛と鮮やかなピンク赤色のくちばしを持ちます。パナマからベネズエラ、トリニダードを経て南アメリカ北部の湿潤低地・山麓林に分布しています。標高1,400mまでの林縁や林間空地に生息し、雄は攻撃的に縄張りを守ります。生息域全体で大型の花を咲かせるヘリコニアや他の熱帯林床植物の重要な送粉者です。
