Ustilago filiformisはUstilaginaceae科の黒穂菌で、マコモダケ類(Glyceria属)に感染して花部を暗色の冬胞子塊に変える絶対寄生菌です。宿主植物の発達を操作して正常な子房の代わりに虫こぶを作り、菌の胞子を散布させます。Ustilago属の黒穂病感染は宿主イネ科植物の種子生産を大幅に低下させることがあります。
