About

高地アンデスのハチドリで、雄の琥珀橙色の喉当て羽毛がトルマリンを連想させることから命名された。コロンビア・ベネズエラ・エクアドルの標高2,200〜4,100mのパラモ草原・雲霧林・林縁に生息する。雄の喉当ては光の角度によってオレンジ銅色から紫色に変化する。すべてのサン・エンジェルと同様に、ハチドリの中では比較的寒冷に強く、寒冷なアンデスの夜間のエネルギーを節約するために代謝率を大幅に低下させることができる。
