About

Un colibri andino de gran altitud nombrado por el calido plumaje gorgueral ambar anaranjado que lo caracteriza, los angelitos de tourmalina habitan los pajonales del paramo, el bosque de niebla y los bordes de bosque en Colombia, Venezuela y Ecuador a elevaciones de 2.200 a 4.100 metros. Los machos exhiben un gorgueral de destellos cobrizos anaranjados a purpura segun el angulo de la luz. Como todos los angelitos, son relativamente tolerantes al frio para ser colibries y pueden reducir significativamente su tasa metabolica por la noche para conservar energia en los frios Andes.
