ムラサキミツドリ(Cyanerpes caeruleus)は小型で鮮やかに着色されたタナガー関連のミツドリで、雄は深い紫色の羽毛に黒い翼と明るい黄色の脚のパッチを持ち、雌は濃い緑色に黄色の筋がある。コロンビア、ベネズエラからボリビア、ブラジルに至る湿潤な熱帯林の樹冠に生息し、長く曲がった嘴で花の蜜を吸い、果実や小昆虫も食べる。熱帯林冠の花の重要な送粉者である。
