ムラサキセナカトゲハチドリ(Ramphomicron microrhynchum)は、雄が輝く紫色の背と腰の羽毛を持つ宝石のような高山性の小型ハチドリで、短い管状の花に適した特徴的な短い嘴を持つ。ベネズエラ、コロンビア、エクアドル、ペルーの標高2,500~4,500メートルのパラモ草地と雲霧林の縁に生息する。その小さな体にもかかわらず、花の群生地で縄張りを積極的に守り、高高度に特化した最も寒冷に適応したハチドリの一つである。
