温かみのあるバフ黄色の尾基部と冠状の輝く頭部をもつ大型の頑健なハチドリで、コロンビアとエクアドルの北アンデスの雲霧林や林縁に、標高1,200〜2,800mで生息します。比較的攻撃的で花蜜に富む縄張りを守り、大型の開花木で採食します。低地種に比べて大きな体は、高標高での低温耐性の採食に対する適応を反映しています。軽度懸念に分類されています。
