Novosphingobium gossypiiは、Sphingomonadaceae科に属するグラム陰性細菌で、もともとワタ(Gossypium)の植物材料から単離された。属の他の構成員と同様にスフィンゴ脂質含有細胞膜を持つ好気性生物で、植物関連土壌における芳香族化合物の分解に寄与する可能性がある。保全状況は評価されていない。

Sphingobium mellinum は合成窒素含有有機化合物であるメラミンを分解する独特の能力を持つグラム陰性好気性桿菌である。メラミン含有化合物に汚染された環境から単離されており、窒素含有合成化学汚染物質のバイオレメディエーションに関与する特化した細菌である。
