Novosphingobium gossypii is a gram-negative bacterium in the family Sphingomonadaceae, originally isolated from cotton (Gossypium) plant material. Like other members of its genus, it is an aerobic organism with sphingolipid-containing cell membranes and may contribute to aromatic compound degradation in plant-associated soils. Its conservation status is not evaluated.

Sphingobium mellinum is a Gram-negative aerobic rod with the distinctive ability to degrade melamine, a synthetic nitrogen-rich organic compound. It has been isolated from environments contaminated with melamine-containing compounds. This specialized bacterium participates in the bioremediation of nitrogen-containing synthetic chemical pollutants.
