アウラコセイラ・ディスタンス(Aulacoseira distans)は北半球の亜寒帯〜温帯の貧栄養〜中栄養の湖沼・池に生育する糸状の中心目珪藻類で、細胞縁辺のとげで連結した長い連鎖を形成する。光合成を行うことで湖沼の一次生産に貢献する植物プランクトンとして、寒冷で栄養の乏しい清澄な湖の生態系において重要な役割を果たす。珪藻殻は地層に保存されやすく、古環境・古気候の指標生物として古生態学的に利用される。
Cheetah
地球上で最も速い陸上動物で、アフリカとイランの草原において短距離走で時速112kmに達する。深い胸部、長い脚、独特の黒い涙縞模様を持つ細身の体型が特徴だ。他の大型ネコ科動物とは異なり、チーターはチャープ音やパー音で鳴く。生息地の分断と大型捕食者との競争により、残存個体数は約7,000頭のみとなっており、危急種に分類されている。
