About

A medium-sized hummingbird with velvety black and white plumage and a distinctive white-streaked breast that gives it a soft, feathered appearance, mountain velvetbreasts inhabit the cloud forests and upper forest edges of the Andes from Colombia to northern Peru. Found at elevations between 1,700–3,500 meters, they feed on nectar from a variety of Andean flowering plants. They are inconspicuous relative to more colorful high-Andean hummingbirds. Listed as Least Concern.
