Methanofollis aquaemaris is a methanogenic archaeon in the order Methanomicrobiales, isolated from marine sediments. It is a strictly anaerobic, hydrogenotrophic methanogen, producing methane by reducing carbon dioxide using hydrogen as the electron donor. Its marine habitat distinguishes it from several other Methanofollis species isolated from freshwater or terrestrial environments.
