Orders often reflect major ecological or morphological diversifications within a class. Within mammals, Carnivora groups meat-eaters; Chiroptera unites all bats. The order Passeriformes contains more than half of all bird species, reflecting an extraordinarily successful radiation. As molecular phylogenetics matures, many traditional orders have been split or merged to reflect actual evolutionary relationships more accurately.
