The Collared Mongoose, known scientifically as <em>Herpestes semitorquatus</em>, is a small carnivorous mammal belonging to the family Herpestidae. <em>Herpestes semitorquatus</em> is characterised by a distinctive pale collar or band of lighter fur around the neck region, which gives the species its common name and differentiates it from other mongoose species within the genus.
