Collared Mongoose

The Collared Mongoose, known scientifically as <em>Herpestes semitorquatus</em>, is a small carnivorous mammal belonging to the family Herpestidae. <em>Herpestes semitorquatus</em> is characterised by a distinctive pale collar or band of lighter fur around the neck region, which gives the species its common name and differentiates it from other mongoose species within the genus. Mongooses of the genus Herpestes are typically agile, terrestrial predators that inhabit a range of forested and scrubland environments.
