About

A large, boldly marked hummingbird of humid lowland and foothill forest from southern Mexico through Central America to the western Amazon, male white-necked jacobins have glossy dark blue heads, bright white breast and white-tipped tail, creating a striking monochromatic contrast. Females show unusual plumage polymorphism — some resemble males, an adaptation thought to reduce male harassment. They are forest-edge and canopy specialists, feeding at flowering trees and epiphytes.
