A symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits while the other is neither helped nor harmed.
Detailed Explanation
True commensalism is debated — most apparent commensal relationships, on closer study, reveal subtle costs or benefits to both parties. Barnacles attaching to whale skin gain transportation to food-rich waters, seemingly without affecting the whale. Remoras travel with sharks consuming scraps; while often classed as commensal, they may reduce shark hydrodynamic efficiency slightly.
