Un pequeño estrilda de hábitats semiáridos y matorrales secos en toda el África subsahariana y la zona del Sahel, los estrildas de rabadilla negra tienen un llamativo pico y rabadilla carmesí que contrasta con su cuerpo pardo grisáceo.
