La lechuza común (Tyto alba) es la especie de búho más extendida del planeta, presente en todos los continentes excepto la Antártida y en prácticamente todo tipo de hábitats, desde bosques tropicales hasta tierras agrícolas templadas. Su característica cara en forma de corazón actúa como pantalla acústica que canaliza el sonido hacia sus oídos asimétricos, permitiéndole localizar presas en completa oscuridad solo por el sonido.
