La rosa de boticario es una de las rosas cultivadas más antiguas que existen; lleva más de 2.000 años cultivándose en Europa y Oriente Medio y fue la principal fuente de pétalos de rosa para herboristas y perfumistas medievales. Produce fragantes flores de color rosa intenso, simples a semidobles, cada primavera; es originaria del Cáucaso y el norte de Irán. Sus pétalos conservan la fragancia al secarse, lo que la hace valiosa para la elaboración de agua de rosas, attar y popurrí. Es la antecesora de muchos cultivares de rosas modernas.
