Penicillium expansum es un moho verde-azulado ubicuo tristemente célebre por causar la podredumbre azul en manzanas, peras y otras frutas de pepita. Habita en suelos, material vegetal en descomposición y frutas almacenadas en todo el mundo en regiones templadas y subtropicales.
