Green Sea Turtle

La tortuga verde (Chelonia mydas) es una de las tortugas marinas más grandes. Su nombre proviene del color verde de su cartílago y grasa, no del caparazón.

Porphyrobacter tepidarius es una bacteria fototropa anoxigenica aerobia moderadamente termofila, capaz de crecer a temperaturas elevadas, como sugiere su nombre especifico (tepidarius, que significa calido). Ha sido aislada en habitats termales o de agua dulce calida. Al igual que otras especies de Porphyrobacter, contiene bacterioclorofila y puede aprovechar la energia luminosa como fuente de energia suplementaria.
