El panda gigante (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) es un animal emblemático de China, célebre por su pelaje blanco y negro y su dieta basada casi exclusivamente en bambú. Su estado de conservación es vulnerable (VU), es el animal bandera de la conservación internacional de la vida silvestre, y su población ha experimentado cierta recuperación en los últimos años.
Oscillatoria rupicola es una cianobacteria filamentosa de la familia Oscillatoriaceae que forma tapetes y biopelículas sobre superficies rocosas en arroyos de agua dulce, cascadas y sustratos terrestres húmedos. Sus tricomas cilíndricos carecen de heterocistos y se mueven mediante la motilidad de deslizamiento oscilatoria que da nombre al género. Contribuye a la producción primaria basada en biopelículas en hábitats epilíticos.
