Türkisnaschvogel

Cyanerpes cyaneus

About

A small, strikingly colored tanager-related honeycreeper, males display vivid royal blue plumage with bright red legs — the diagnostic feature giving the species its name — and a long, curved, yellow-tipped bill. Found in tropical and subtropical forest canopy from Mexico south to Bolivia and Brazil, including Trinidad. They probe flowers for nectar, and their long bill accesses flowers unavailable to shorter-billed birds. Important pollinators of tropical canopy tree flowers.
