Pleurocapsa minuta is a pleurocapsalean cyanobacterium that reproduces through the formation of baeocytes—small, reproductive cells released from larger vegetative cells called vegetative sporangia. It inhabits rocky intertidal and supralittoral zones, forming dark, crust-like colonies on stones and rock faces. Its small cell size and reproductive strategy are characteristic of this order of cyanobacteria.
